Process & Validity

Please expect a turn around time of 8 to 9 hours, for eg if you arrive at the centre at 9.00 am you should receive all your certificates before 6.00pm, if all reports are normal.

Following are the reasons:

For faster turnaround time we strongly recommend to book online and fill the registration and self declaration form before your physical visit to the clinic.

If on the date of examination your age is less than 18 years, then the validity is for 1 year.

Otherwise, the validity is for 2 years, until otherwise specified by your doctor.

Yes, we encourage that you book online and fill the registration and self- declaration form, before coming physically to the clinic.

You will mandatorily get the following certificates:

  • DG shipping approved/STCW/ILO approved main medical certificate
  • Annexure IV
  • Annexure V- Sight test Certificate
  • Urine Drug Assay report

Currently our centre is recognised for issuing medical certificates for Panama and Liberia flagged vessels in addition to being a DG shipping approved centre.

It depends on what reason has been given by the doctor,

Permanently Unfit means that you do not meet the minimum necessary criteria for e.g.- if you have colour blindness.

Temporary unfit means that you have a reversible condition which can improve over time. The doctor will tell you when to come back for re-examination.

Fit with Restrictions in very rare cases, your doctor might certify you as fit but may restrict you from doing certain specific activities.

Following mandatory tests will be done:

  • Vitals Check up- Pulse, BP, Height, Weight, Chest expansion
  • Thorough physical and psychometric assessment
  • Vision test for visual acuity
  • Tests for Colour blindness
  • All blood test and urine tests as mandated by DG shipping

However, you may be asked by the doctor to undergo additional testing also.

Yes, it is preferable that you come fasting. We recommend that you bring your breakfast and lunch with you as the entire process takes time.

It is preferable that you take a cab from the international airport( T3 and T2) from the Domestic terminal 1 airport, taking the metro is the fastest way to reach our centre.

Medical Conditions

Unfortunately, as per DG shipping if you are colour blind then you will be certified as permanently UNFIT and will not be eligible for any seafaring studies or posts even in the future.

If your diabetes or Hypertension is well controlled with Medicines then your doctor will certify you as fit.

If your disease is not well controlled, your doctor will certify you as temporarily unfit, and ask you to come back when it is well controlled.

In both the cases it is important that you disclose all your diseases and medicines.

However, the tests mandated by DG Shipping has to be mandatorily done at the approved centre.

Any outside report will not be entertained as substitute to inhouse testing.

Yes. Since catering staff handle food, tests focus on:

  • In Addition to the usual Dg shipping tests following are some extra test to be done:
    • Throat swab
    • Stool routine
    • Stool culture
    • Mantoux test( if mandated by shipping company)

For Food Handlers who require stool culture and Mantoux test, it will be given after 72 hours.

  • Typhoid vaccine (repeat every 3 years as per DG Shipping)
  • Hepatitis A vaccine (2-dose schedule)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Td/Tdap) booster every 10 years
  • Hepatitis B vaccine (3-dose schedule)
  • Chickenpox (Varicella): if no past disease or 2 documented doses
  • Yellow fever: if travelling to endemic zones
  • Influenza: yearly, strongly recommended
  • The second dose should be taken at least 4 weeks after the first dose.
  • If delayed, just take the pending dose (no need to restart).
