How long does it take?

Please expect a turn around time of 8 to 9 hours, for eg if you arrive at the centre at 9.00 am you should receive all your certificates before 6.00pm, if all reports are normal.

Why does it take so long?

Every test is actually done. All test go through NABH/NABL required quality checks. Multiple forms have to be filled. Multiple documents have to be scanned and uploaded. Thorough rechecking of documents for any mistakes. Uploading of final status on Dg shipping website. For faster turnaround time we strongly recommend to book online and fill the registration and self declaration form before your physical visit to the clinic.

What is the validity of the certificates?

If on the date of examination your age is less than 18 years, then the validity is for 1 year. Otherwise, the validity is for 2 years, until otherwise specified by your doctor.

What all certificates will I get?

You will mandatorily get the following certificates: DG shipping approved/STCW/ILO approved main medical certificate, Annexure IV, Annexure V- Sight test Certificate, and Urine Drug Assay report.

Is this valid for foreign flags?

Currently our centre is recognised for issuing medical certificates for Panama and Liberia flagged vessels in addition to being a DG shipping approved centre.

It depends on what reason has been given by the doctor. Permanently Unfit means that you do not meet the minimum necessary criteria for e.g.- if you have colour blindness. Temporary unfit means that you have a reversible condition which can improve over time. The doctor will tell you when to come back for re-examination. Fit with Restrictions in very rare cases, your doctor might certify you as fit but may restrict you from doing certain specific activities.

What all tests will be done?

Following mandatory tests will be done: Vitals Check up- Pulse, BP, Height, Weight, Chest expansion; Thorough physical and psychometric assessment; Vision test for visual acuity; Tests for Colour blindness; All blood test and urine tests as mandated by DG shipping; Pulmonary function test; ECG; Chest X-ray; Ultrasound whole abdomen. However, you may be asked by the doctor to undergo additional testing also.

Do I get reports on email?

Yes, you will get all your certificates(as mandated by DG shipping) and all reports done, both in hard copy and via email at the end of the process.

What all facilities does the centre offer?

Comfortable waiting area, free drinking water, clean toilets, free Wifi, newspaper, and mobile phone charging stations.

Is Parking Available?

There is no dedicated parking available, and you will have to make your own arrangement.

What is the nearest metro station and on which line?

The nearest metro station is Dashrathpuri metro station on Magenta Line.

Any particular instruction that I should be aware of?

Be on time. Preferably come fasting. Carry your own meals (expect full day at centre). Fill online registration & self-declaration in advance. Do not request manipulation of reports or fitness status. If travelling from outside Delhi, keep 1 day buffer.

What all documents should I carry on the day of physical visit?

Originals: INDOS, CDC, Passport (or Aadhar for students), 3 passport-size photographs (white background), Breakfast & lunch (clinic provides water, wifi, waiting area), and Spectacles (if using glasses).

How do I reach form Delhi international Airport?

It is preferable that you take a cab from the international airport (T3 and T2). From the Domestic terminal 1 airport, taking the metro is the fastest way to reach our centre.

I have colour blindness am I eligible for Shipping industry?

Unfortunately, as per DG shipping if you are colour blind then you will be certified as permanently UNFIT and will not be eligible for any seafaring studies or posts even in the future.

Does having Diabetes or Hypertension make me unfit?

No, having the above conditions does not make you permanently unfit. If your diabetes or Hypertension is well controlled with Medicines then your doctor will certify you as fit. If your disease is not well controlled, your doctor will certify you as temporarily unfit, and ask you to come back when it is well controlled. In both the cases it is important that you disclose all your diseases and medicines.

My HBsAg report is positive- does it mean I am permanently unfit?

No, it does not make you automatically- permanently unfit. Your doctor might certify you as temporarily unfit and may refer you to a specialist and/or order some further tests to determine the disease activity and then review at a later date.

My HIV report is positive- does it mean I am permanently unfit?

No, it does not make you automatically permanently unfit. Your doctor might certify you as temporarily unfit and may refer you to a specialist and/or order some further tests to determine the disease activity and then review at a later date.

My VDRL report is positive- does it mean I am permanently unfit?

No, it does not make you automatically permanently unfit. Your doctor might certify you as temporarily unfit and may refer you to a specialist and/or order some further tests to determine the disease activity and then review at a later date.

My BMI is 30, will I be labelled UNFIT?

Your Doctor may ask for additional tests to look for your activity level and cardiac risk factors as BMI may not always be an accurate predictor of high risk (for eg- if you have muscular body, your BMI may be high).

Can I bring tests from any diagnostic Centre?

It is a good practice to bring any medical tests done. However, the tests mandated by DG Shipping has to be mandatorily done at the approved centre. Any outside report will not be entertained as substitute to inhouse testing.

I am a student and I only want to do the Vision test, Will I get fit certificate?

No, Vision test is only one small part of the complete process, You will have to undergo all tests as mandated by DG shipping. However, you may check if you are colour blind or not, for free- by taking our screening test.

I am a student and I have been told that if I am not colour blind then I am fit.

Please do not fall for such false claims as all the tests are important for your entire shipping career. Please remember that these tests will be carried out multiple times throughout your career. If by any chance you are declared permanently unfit due to any other reason besides colour blindness, you would have lost a lot of money and quite a few years of your career. So we would advise you not to take shortcuts.

Will I have to do all the tests again if I revisit after being certified as Temporarily Unfit?

Yes, you will have to undergo all the tests again, until and unless specified by the Doctor.

Can I get a certificate even if I am not there at the centre?

No, It is strictly prohibited as per DG Shipping and is a fraudulent practice. No medical certificate will be issued without physical presence of the candidate at the centre. However, you can book online and fill the registration and self-declaration form, before coming physically to the clinic.

What documents should I carry for my medical examination?

INDOS+ CDC, Company referral/appointment letter (if available), 3 passport-size photographs preferably with white background, Previous medical fitness certificates, and Previous vaccination records.

Are there any additional tests for catering staff compared to other crew?

Yes. Since catering staff handle food, tests focus on additional tests to be done in addition to the usual DG shipping tests, including throat swab, stool routine, stool culture, and Mantoux test (if mandated by shipping company).

When will I get my medical reports?

For Food Handlers who require stool culture and Mantoux test, it will be given after 72 hours.

Which vaccinations are mandatory for food handlers?

Typhoid vaccine (repeat every 3 years as per DG Shipping), Hepatitis A vaccine (2-dose schedule), Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Td/Tdap) booster every 10 years, Hepatitis B vaccine (3-dose schedule), Chickenpox (Varicella) if no past disease or 2 documented doses, Yellow fever if travelling to endemic zones, and Influenza yearly, strongly recommended.

I have taken one dose of Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine. When should I get the next dose?

The second dose should be taken at least 4 weeks after the first dose. If delayed, just take the pending dose (no need to restart).

I have completed both doses of Varicella vaccine. When should I take a booster?

No booster is needed. Two doses provide lifelong protection.

I have taken a Typhoid vaccine (Enteroshield or other). When should I take the next dose?

DG Shipping requires repeat vaccination every 3 years, even if protection lasts longer.

I have taken one dose of Hepatitis A vaccine. When should I take the next dose?

Take the second dose after 6 months from the first dose. If delayed, just take the pending dose (no need to restart).

I have completed both doses of Hepatitis A vaccine. When should I take a booster?

No booster is required. Two doses protect for at least 15–20 years.

What is the schedule for Hepatitis B vaccine?

3 doses: at 0, 1, and 6 months (standard). Booster: Not needed if antibody levels are protective. Sometimes a booster is given after 5–10 years if antibody levels fall.

When should I take the Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Td/Tdap) vaccine?

Every 10 years as an adult booster. If you have a dirty wound and it has been >5 years since your last dose, an early booster may be given.

Do I need an Influenza vaccine?

Yes, it is strongly recommended for catering staff. Take 1 dose every year before flu season.

Do I need a Yellow Fever vaccine?

Only if you are travelling to a yellow fever–endemic country. One dose is valid for life, but some countries still ask for repeat after 10 years.

What if I don't remember my vaccination history?

A blood test can check immunity for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Varicella. If not immune, the vaccine series should be started.

Frequently Ask Questions?

How long does a seafarer medical take?

Routine completion takes 3–5 hours from your arrival at the clinic to completed medical certification. This applies every day, including Saturdays and Sundays. Additional company tests with longer processing, or further medical assessment, can extend completion for those cases.

Can I book online?

Yes. Contact the clinic to confirm your arrival time and complete the applicable government portal appointment and declaration steps. A WhatsApp enquiry does not replace the government portal requirements. Book on WhatsApp

What documents and reports will I receive?

Your medical fitness certificate follows the applicable eSamudra or student process. Investigation reports remain separate from the fitness certificate. Additional company or foreign-flag forms are prepared where required for your assignment.

How long is a medical fitness certificate valid?

The validity and any restrictions are stated on your issued certificate. Do not assume that every certificate is valid for two years; age, medical findings and the applicable authority can affect validity. Check the expiry date before travel or joining.

What happens if further assessment is needed?

The doctor explains the findings, the fitness decision and any further tests, treatment, referral or review needed. Certification cannot be guaranteed before the medical assessment. The reason for a temporary or permanent unfit decision and any restrictions will be explained.

What tests will I undergo?

The examination and investigations depend on your category, medical history and company or flag requirements. Read ‘Your examination’ above for the clinic’s process. Send additional company instructions before the appointment.

Can I receive my reports electronically?

The clinic provides investigation reports electronically. The medical fitness certificate follows the applicable government portal process. From 2 October 2026, the announced seafarer process provides for downloading the digitally signed certificate through eSamudra or e-Navik after signature.

Should I come fasting?

Yes, come fasting for your seafarer medical and follow the instructions given when booking. If you have diabetes, are pregnant or take regular medicines, contact the clinic beforehand for individual fasting and medicine instructions. Bring a meal or snack for after the relevant tests.

What facilities are available?

A waiting area, drinking water, toilets, Wi-Fi and phone charging are available. There is no dedicated parking. The clinic is in the basement.

How do I reach the clinic?

We are opposite Dada Dev Hospital on Dabri Palam Road, near Dashrathpuri Metro Station on the Magenta Line. Use the map for a route from your starting point, including the airport. Confirm your appointment before travelling. Get Directions

Can the free colour test determine whether I am fit?

No. The online test is preliminary colour vision screening. It cannot issue a medical fitness decision. Normal colour vision is required for entry into seafaring training under the applicable pre-sea standards. If screening raises a concern, obtain an eye specialist opinion assessment before booking medical examination or making travel commitments. Take Color Test

Does controlled diabetes or blood pressure guarantee fitness?

No. Disclose your diagnosis and all medicines. The doctor assesses control, complications, treatment and the duties of the intended role against the applicable standards. A diagnosis alone does not let this website determine your fitness.

What if a screening blood test is positive?

A positive screening result requires clinical interpretation and sometimes confirmatory tests or specialist review. The doctor will explain the result and the next steps. Do not infer a final fitness decision from an isolated test result on this website.

Does BMI alone determine fitness?

Fitness is assessed against the applicable standards and the complete medical findings. The doctor may require further assessment. The website cannot certify fitness from a BMI number alone.

Can I bring previous or outside reports?

Yes, bring them for the doctor’s review. They do not automatically replace investigations required for the current seafarer medical.

Can a student obtain a certificate after only a vision test?

No. A vision test or online colour screening is only one part of the process. A student must attend the clinic and complete the required medical examination for certification.

Will all tests be repeated after a temporary unfit decision?

Follow the review instructions issued by the examining doctor. The tests needed at reassessment depend on the reason for the decision and the applicable requirements.

Can I obtain a certificate without visiting the clinic?

No. You must attend the clinic in person for the medical examination. Online preparation and appointment booking do not replace physical attendance.

Do catering crew need additional investigations?

Your company may require additional food-handler investigations, such as stool testing, culture or other specified tests. Send the company instructions before booking. Tests requiring longer processing can take about 72 hours; the team will identify these before your visit.
